The soft clicking of her sleek black heels was the only sound radiating from the dark alley. It was well beyond midnight when Lacey had left the club, after yet another failed mission for information. Lacey had always hated it when her intel was wrong she felt it made her look like an idiot at headquarters. Tonight she was looking for Jeremy Blackwell, a weapons specialist that was selling illegal arms to Pakistan. Her intel said he would show at midnight, and he never showed. Her head pounded from the drinks she took over the past few hours to keep from blowing her cover. Looking back she probably shouldn't have done all of those shots. She placed her palm on her forehead in an attempt to "heal" the throbbing.
Now she had to walk through the dark alleyways at nearly three in the morning to get home. What was worse was there was a heavy chill in the air causing her nipples to poke up under her tight gold dress. The wind blew from behind her causing her hair to flutter in front of her face. Lacey growled softly before wrapping her arms around her waist. "Why didn't I think to bring a jacket?" She murmured under her breath as a shiver shook her slim form. She still had a few miles to go until she reached home.
A mysterious methodic thump was hidden under the sound of her heels. It was subtle, but it was there. Lacey focused all of her attention on the muffled sound before she realized it was footsteps. Someone was walking behind her and at a much slower pace. She quickened her pace her heels clicking against the concrete every few seconds causing the sound to echo in the alleyway.
It was then she realized she was perfect bait. The tight dress, the slight inebriation, and the time of night. She quickened her pace more and turned the corner into a different alley as her heartbeat quickened. Did her target know who she was?
