IT'S JUST ANOTHER NIGHT AND I'M STARING AT THE MOON
Weekend evenings were usually the worst. Not for lack of things to do, because Melissa could easily find things to do. Be it a party, cleaning the house, or simply writing to her family across the ocean. Lack of things to do was not the problem for those nights. No, the issue was that she was stuck eating alone normally. Sure, she could very well eat with her dogs, but that lost its charm after Friday night, especially Baby kept begging during the whole meal. Completely ignoring and half losing her own meal in the process, mind you. It was a bit of a disaster, which Melissa aimed to avoid some of the time. This was how she found herself driving into the city and parking outside of a Chinese restaurant. The Chinese place wasn’t a quick choice. Oh no, Melissa rarely made snap choices without thought on her own. Was she spontaneous with friends? Sure, but then it was fun because it was more than just her. Being spontaneous alone was just weird and boring, like eating gross food alone. It just wasn’t worth it. So, the Chinese place was well thought out, and she felt happy about it. Besides, Chinese was the one food that the alpha’s family seemed to hate the most. No telling why, but it was a type of food she never had with them. So, it was nice to get every so often alone because she knew how Kairi just hated it. Melissa had no idea why they hated Chinese food, just a quirk she assumed.
Arriving at the place, Melissa parked her little 2001 intrigue into the parking lot and hopped out. Did she look dressed up for the semi-formal Chinese place? No, not in her own opinion anyway. She wore a mini dress and leggings, but she supposed in the student’s opinion she was indeed dressed semi-formally. At least if their habits of dressing had anything to say about it. Which is that most of them wore leggings, shorts and tee shirts. A very strange style if she had anything to say about it. Slinging her purse on her shoulder, she locked up her car and headed inside. There appeared to be a short waiting period between arriving and being seated, so Melissa took up a place waiting. Thankfully or not, because she was a party of one she was more easily seated. They put her at the bar within five minutes of her waiting, which was nice. Sitting down, Melissa swiveled her chair a bit before getting comfortable and awaiting the waiter’s arrival. Picking up the menu, she started skimming over and deciding what she wanted. Would she have sweet and sour chicken? Chicken lo mein? Shrimp fried rice? What about dessert? Would she have anything for dessert or simply run to the store for some ice cream? Kairi would likely appreciate a supermarket run for some much needed supplies. Did she have the money in her bank account to buy everything they needed? Pulling out her phone, she checked her balance and was pleased to find that she did indeed have enough. Plenty of money for shopping and dinner, which was good. Settling back once more, Melissa finally made a choice on her food.
It was a good thing she did make a choice too because in that moment a waiter appeared on the other side of the bar. Looking up, Melissa smiled and waited for him to finish his spiel about their specials and such before explaining what she wanted to drink and eat. He seemed quite pleased that she had it all figured out and took her menu with a smile before vanishing. Amused by his reaction, Melissa took out her phone and decided to text Kairi about it. Sure, she wouldn’t receive Melissa’s text until later, it was still nice to share her experience with someone. It was in that moment that someone began walking towards the bar, a few seats away, which caught Melissa’s attention. The scent was familiar, but she couldn’t place it. She didn’t want to turn, hoping that it wasn’t an old friend or something. Perhaps a friend she had while with Koda? She hoped not, but then hoped so all the same. Perhaps they could tell her how Koda was doing? She did so wonder how he was. Why hadn’t she tried to reconnect with him yet? Fear was the answer. Melissa was afraid to face his reaction to it all, especially two things; werewolf and miscarriage. Deciding to take a risk, Melissa turned to look who it was. And speak of the devil, it was Koda Evans. Melissa drew an utter blank for a short time, just staring in his direction. It was uncomfortable and tense for a moment. Sadly her staring caught his attention or perhaps someone else did, for whatever reason, he looked in her direction and she let a smile cross her lips before giving a childish sort of wave in his direction. Well, this was a bit awkward.
