we're different and the same
WE'RE STAKED OUT ON A MISSION, TO FIND OUR INNER PEACE
Emiah shoved her hands into the pockets of her over-sized hoodie, tonight she wasn't working a job. Tonight was about her. A little personal time. Her baby sister Claire was staying with their neighbors, an elderly couple who had been very kind to the two of them and Emiah was grateful for the fact they were happy to look after Claire when she had to work. She was dressed almost like she normally did while working a job, black jeans, black boots but there was a couple of differences. The shirt she wore under her hoodie was a white tank top and she wore no gloves or beanie. Tonight she wasn't Le Minuit Ange, tonight she was just Emiah; a simple waitress who made just enough to keep food on the table and a roof over her and her sisters heads.
Sighing to herself Emiah saw an empty beer can on the ground and began to kick it along the sidewalk as she wandered lost in her thoughts. She'd gotten several job offers in the past few days, yes they were easy jobs but Emiah needed time to look into the claims and see if any of her possible clients were lying to her. Kicking the can into the middle of the road she stood on the sidewalk and took her hands from her pockets as she looked at the can with a small frown. Hearing footsteps of someone walking along the sidewalk Emiah ignored them, down here in the more shady area of Essex Emiah had learnt that people down here didn't ask other people questions. They didn't want to get pulled into someone else's trouble or someone else's business.
Shuffling her feet a little Emiah bit her bottom lip as she continued to frown a little as the footsteps grew closer, but as soon as they stopped close to her Emiah's back stiffened and her frowned deepened at the feeling of being watched. Being in a criminal profession honed your instincts when it came to being watched. Licking her lips a little Emiah slowly began to turn around, ducking her head she stared at the person's shoes letting her hood cover her face so that whoever shoe's she was looking at couldn't see her face at all. "Can I help you?" Emiah asked politely. Her parent's had raised her to have manners and even though her and Claire had been bounced from foster family to foster family for a few years Emiah always clung to everything their parents had taught then.
